Divine Destiny

Everyone has a destiny. However, there is the human point of view and there is God’s view point – and this is your divine destiny. While you were growing up, your parents or guardians may have had their view point of you. Some may have expected too much from you while some not so much. Regardless, what befell you as a child cannot have eternal impediment to the development of your skill and will.

Helen Keller, the American author and educator who was blind and deaf said, “The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.” Divine destiny is you catching a vision of God’s plan for you. Ecclesiastes 3:11b (NIV) says “He has set eternity in the hearts of men.” This Scripture tells us that God has put it in our hearts to be a part of something bigger than ourselves. First, I believe this Scripture tells us that God has put in our hearts a desire for eternal life. We know this can only come from salvation through Jesus Christ. Secondly, I believe God has set eternity in our hearts a desire to make our earthly lives count, to make a mark in this life.

I was once a caregiver for an elderly Belgian man called Maurice. A survivor of the concentration camps, he migrated to America in 1948. Maurice was fluent in about four languages: German, French, Polish, and Dutch. He told me that when he landed in America he didn’t know any English. His first job was in a factory and his fellow laborers mocked him repeatedly because of his accent and lack of fluency of the English language.
“One day,” said Maurice, “This man told me: “You will never get out of this factory because a person that doesn’t know English will never succeed out there.””
“And how did you respond?” I posed.
Without missing a beat, the frail elderly man said, “I told him, I am perfecting my English and as soon as that is done, I will be speaking five different languages and I will choose where to work because I have vision.”
Long story short, Maurice went on to start a feed lawn and garden business which has continued to run successfully for over 60 years! His skill and will could not be held captive by man’s view point of him.

The girl in Naaman’s house was a slave but her spirit was not in captivity. (2 Kings 5:1-19). Slavery of the soul is worse than that of the body. This girl’s nation was conquered but her soul wasn’t. She used her master’s leprosy not as a mark of mockery but as an opportunity… a challenge to reveal who her God is. Like her, it is possible to find yourself in an unexpected situation but your spirit must always be in an expectant state. Despite her current physical state of slavery, this girl knew she held the answer for her master’s liberation. She refused the negativity that was right before her face. Everyone else around her might have seen her as inferior (the slave, the maid) but she knew she has been kept by a superior God. You too have been called and kept by God Almighty therefore, don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. (Romans 12:2)

Finding your divine destiny involves knowing what your passion is. What are you zealous about? This may involve time and energy and it may also require you to reach outside your comfort zone. While that might be unpleasant, if your divine destiny is hemmed in by faith, hope, and love the results will be eternal. (1 Corinthians 13:13)

You have a divine destiny. Whether you are a single parent, a stay-at-home-mum, a student, a person between jobs, a fireman, a nurse… don’t let anything stop you. You’re destined to make a mark in this life! Yes, amid all the daily hustle and bustle of life, rise up in faith, hope and love and embark on doing what God divinely preordained you to do. Step out of the pages of the Bible and begin to live the divine image. Let the very love of God move you to step out in faith and do what the Spirit leads you to do. When you step out in love, by faith and with hope you will fulfill your divine destiny. You’re destined to make a mark in this life!
