Winning Souls

17 And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” – Mark 1:17 ESV

The purpose of the Church of Jesus Christ is to draw souls into the Kingdom of God.

If we are part of the body of Christ then we have some work to do. And since the work is plenty and there’s only a few of us, (Matthew 9:37 NLT), we cannot be sluggish or lazy. Think about it this way, whenever we don’t share the message of salvation, we deprive someone of the opportunity to meet Jesus. For this purpose has He saved us, that we should tell of all His praises (Psalm 9:14 NASB). Declaring of His praiseworthy acts is a great way to win souls.

Why should we win souls?

  • It is a way for us to communicate the will of the Father to the unsaved; so that the non-believer should have an opportunity to turn to righteousness.

“14…if he turns from his sin and does what is just and right, 15 if the wicked restores the pledge, gives back what he has taken by robbery, and walks in the statutes of life, not doing injustice, he shall surely live; he shall not die. 16 None of the sins that he has committed shall be remembered against him. He has done what is just and right; he shall surely live.Ezekiel 33: 14-16 ESV

  • It is a way for us to acknowledge or confess our Father before people – (Matthew 10:32 NIV)
  • It is a way of us telling our story. Has the Lord redeemed you? Then say so! Speak out! (Psalm 107:2 NIV)

We can fish for souls with our actions and speech and so we must be in step with the Lord at all times. Time is short and we must redeem it NOW! 15 Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. – Ephesians 5:15-17 ESV

The will of God is that none should perish, but that all should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9 KJV)

  • It is an opportunity for us to rejoice with those in heaven because there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God. (Luke 15:7 NIV)

Are we sent?

In the recent past I came across some startling statistics; that it is estimated that 75% of all Hindus, Muslims and Buddhists don’t know a Christian. Although Christians only make up a third of the world’s population, more than 8 in 10 non-Christians do not personally know a Christian! In North America, 65% of Buddhists, 78% of Hindus and 43% of Muslims do not personally know a Christian. Does this made you wonder about our commitment to reach the lost?

May we receive the spirit of boldness to step out of our comfort zones and reach out to non-believers because we have a promise that  “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:13 ESV) but we must make Christ known to them.

Think about this:
14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in Him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?Romans 10:14 ESV

If we belong to the Body of Christ then we have been called, set apart and sent to the world to preach the good news of salvation. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” – Mark 1:17 NIV. ?

What would happen if we each won a soul to Christ?
